FIRST ANNUAL SOBAY FESTIVAL TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE ARTS IN THE SOUTH BISCAYNE BAY COMMUNITY
Festival to Celebrate Community, Culture and Creativity in Miami’s Fastest Growing Cultural Community, South Biscayne Bay-While benefiting the Deering Estate Foundation
Palmetto Bay, FL (Jan. 15, 2007) – The arts are alive and well in Palmetto Bay! That’s the message of the first SoBay Festival, an arts celebration February 2 – 14 that will present literary, performing and visual arts from around the country while showcasing premier local arts and cultural institutions. From the artistry of the spoken word to the soft sounds of jazz, the SoBay Festival will offer something for everybody. Proceeds will go to the Deering Estate Foundation, to support programming and improvements at the Deering Estate.
The Festival kicks-off at Palmetto Bay Village Center with an evening of storytelling presented by The Moth, a performance noted by the Wall Street Journal as “New York’s hottest and hippest literary ticket.” The Moth, presented by TNT, will make its South Florida debut on February 2 at 7:00 pm. Storytellers will each tell a 12-minute, well-crafted, first-person narrative based around the evening’s theme, Out on a Limb: Stories from the Edge. Storytellers will include The Moth’s frequent New York contributors Jonathan Ames, author of Wake Up, Sir! and What's Not to Love? and Andy Borowitz, author of The Borowitz Report and writer for The New Yorker and Newsweek. Local storytellers will also take part in the evening, including award-winning journalist and radio host, Jim DeFede.
